Christmas crystals can be an inspiration for colour, rather than a list of things to buy. Purple, pale pink, clear tones and earthy shades offer alternatives to the annual red-and-green takeover. Use a stone you already own as the starting point for a festive palette.
Pick three colours
Choose a main colour, a lighter shade and one contrasting detail. Translate those colours into paper, ribbon or a handwritten card. A small palette can work across different materials without everything matching exactly.
Try an unexpected combination
Purple with brown paper, pink with silver-coloured ribbon, or clear glass with dark green leaves can each suggest a different look. These are design choices; a colour does not establish a spiritual property.
Use what is already in the drawer
Offcuts, old gift bags and last year’s ribbon can join the experiment. If you display a stone, keep it secure and away from food preparation and small children. The aim is a playful colour exercise, not another shopping mission.
