Clairvoyant and clairaudient are terms used within psychic and spiritual practice. A clairvoyant practitioner describes visual impressions, while a clairaudient practitioner describes auditory impressions. These are descriptions of beliefs and reported experiences, rather than established ways of verifying information.
Visual and auditory language
A visual impression might be described as an image, scene or symbol in the mind. An auditory impression might be described as a word, phrase or sound. Practitioners do not all explain these experiences in the same way, and some use more than one term for their approach.
Other terms in the same vocabulary
Clairsentient is another word sometimes used in this area, referring to impressions described as feelings or sensations. It is useful to keep the vocabulary separate from ordinary seeing, hearing and touching. The spiritual labels do not establish that an impression accurately describes another person.
Understanding an explanation
When reading a practitioner profile, look at the explanation attached to the term. A description of the method is more informative than the label alone. It also helps distinguish how someone says they work from claims about what a reading will reveal.
