Dream Journals: How Can You Record Dreams Without Treating Them as Predictions?

Dream journals can be a place to record remembered scenes, feelings and unusual details. You do not have to decide that a dream foretells an event in order to write about it.

Looking at the context

Start with what you remember and leave gaps where the memory is unclear. Record a few words before trying to turn the dream into a complete story. Add the date so you can tell separate entries apart.

A practical way to explore it

Use two headings: remembered details and my associations. A house, animal or journey may mean something different to you than it does in a dream dictionary. Keep that personal interpretation labelled as your own.

Keeping your own perspective

Avoid filling in missing details to match later events. You may simply enjoy noticing recurring settings, images or themes. There is no requirement to remember a dream every morning or to find a message in each one.
